May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has enhanced its legal protection cover – extending the professional advice and guidance available to its members.

The cover and services provided under the Group Commercial Legal Protection cover that comes automatically with PDA membership is now underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Ltd.

This new arrangement has seen a series of enhancements introduced, making it easier for the PDA’s sole traders and smaller companies to access cover and services, whilst retaining the level of service relevant to larger member companies.

Improvements are wide-ranging and include contract dispute cover now applying to disputes over £500 instead of the previous figure of over £2,500 though an excess of £500 now applies to disputes involving amounts exceeding £5,000 inclusive of VAT.

The any one event indemnity limit has also been increased from £50,000 to £100,000, and the annual aggregate limit from £100,000 to £1,000,000, while tax protection services have also been extended to now include cover for aspect enquiries, cross-tax enquiries and employer compliance disputes.

Neil Ogilvie, Chief Executive of the PDA, said: “The enhancements to our legal cover mean we are better placed to provide more of our members with legal protection.

“In the current business climate, these services are more important than ever and ensure membership of the PDA represents great value.”

In addition to the existing 24 hour, seven days a week European legal and UK tax advice services, PDA members now have access to an on-line employment manual, an on-line ‘DASbusinesslaw’ document builder’ facility and a 24 hour counselling service.

DASbusinesslaw allows members to create ready-to-sign contracts, agreements and letters in minutes using smart document builders.

Legal documents can also be brought from the site, ranging from simple debt recovery letters to employment contracts.

The service also provides useful reference tools for members, including articles and information on matters such as new legislation, employment issues, property law and taxation all regularly updated by legal experts.

The cover also extends to debt recovery, with cover provided for negotiating for members’ legal rights including enforcement of judgment to recover money and interest due from the sale or provision of goods or services, providing that the amount in dispute exceeds £500.

Cover under the employment disputes and compensation awards section has also been extended, as well as under the legal defence section.

Finally, cover is also now provided for statutory licence appeals.

In all other respects, cover, terms, conditions and exclusions remain unaltered. A cover summary is available via the ‘latest members news’ article that can be found on the home page of the PDA’s website.  Members can view a copy of the full policy wording through the secure members-only area of the website.
