Omaha Resident Releases Biography of Her Grandfather, a World War I Survivor

The story of one man's journey from Finland to America and surviving World War I.

May 14, 2012 - PRLog -- RINGGOLD, Ga. – Janet Sharp, a local Omaha resident and native of Nebraska, recently released a book titled The Songs. The book chronicles the journey of Sharp’s grandfather from his homeland of Finland, to ports around the world, to America, the country he eventually called home.

Sharp embarked on the journey of a lifetime, piecing together the incredible story of her grandfather from his infancy to adulthood, at the request of her mother.

Born in 1891, Sharp’s grandfather was put up for auction at the tender age of two and a half, a practice in Finland that enabled poor children the chance at a better life with foster parents.

From his formative years to his early career as a steward on Finnish merchant vessels, Sharp depicts life through the eyes of her grandfather, chronicling the challenges he faced on the high seas. Challenges that included sailing around the world, dodging German ships and mines in World War I, and surviving a brutal storm while rounding Cape Horn.

Along his journey, Sharp’s grandfather learned compelling lessons about faith, hope, love, and providence.

The Songs is published by TEACH Services, and is available through the publisher’s Web site (http://www.TEACHServices.com), Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or local bookstores by request.
