May 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Writer, rapper, and singer juicy2fresh refused to conform to other people's vision of a recording artist.  Living up to her creed of "I never fit in because I was made to stand out," she launched Deux Frais Records with the release of her debut single “Clap, Clap, Bravo!”

The song, which is available on iTunes and other digital retailers, not only introduces the artist and label, but also her “international homies” the 2fresh Rebels.  When the 2fresh Rebels website goes live later this summer, members will be able to communicate and collaborate with Juicy and other urban music enthusiasts from around the world regardless of language barriers.

Wendy “juicy2fresh” Miller’s musical influences range from TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, and Missy Elliott to Beyonce, Whitney Houston, and Patti Labelle.  Having grown up listening to diverse musical styles, her songwriting shows an equal appreciation for in-your-face rap lyrics as for melody driven moments of reflection.  The chorus of “Clap, Clap, Bravo!,” written in collaboration with Dutch composer Freek Van Workum, sums up the response she plans to evoke every time she brings her 2fresh style and enthusiasm to the stage:

Clap, Clap, Bravo!
They lovin’ my bravado
I’m makin’ so much money looks like I done won the Lotto
That’s why every move I make the people wanna follow
They say “Juicy you 2fresh” and I just be like “I know”
So all my rebels let’s go
We finna give ‘em a show
Have ‘em goin’ crazy from the front to the back row
Jumpin’ up applaudin’ like there is no tomorrow
Clap, Clap, Bravo!

Juicy (as she is called) exhibits a style that results from being raised partly in the Midwest (St. Louis and Indianapolis), partly in the Dirty South (Atlanta), with a sprinkle of the West Coast (Los Angeles).  Growing up in the single-parent household of an aspiring songwriter, as a toddler Juicy began accompanying her mother to music showcases, networking events, and demo recording sessions. She started hitting the club scene in middle school, attending lock-ins at the skating rink and later teen clubs and spent more time in clubs before the age of 21 than many people do their entire lives.

Watching the way people responded to music lit a fire in Juicy. She wanted to be able to make that same emotional connection with people and became passionate about writing lyrics and hooks.  In 2006, she teamed up with Atlanta producer Kue B and Platinum Tracks on Deck to produce her first demo recording.  Inspired by personal experience, the song “25 and Up” was about being underage hanging out in a club.  She later began studying audio production at the Art Institute of Atlanta, but realized her greatest strengths were as a songwriter and performer.  After recording several demos over the next few years, Juicy decided she needed to take a 2fresh approach to launching her career which compelled her to create her own record label.

In 2010, Juicy began searching for a new sound and came across a website featuring tracks by Dutch composer Freek Van Workum.  She instantly felt a connection with the variety and quality of his compositions and their musical collaboration began.  In addition to “Clap, Clap, Bravo!” they’ve collaborated on four other songs together.  Two of them, “Twinkle, Twinkle” and “Go Crazy,” are scheduled for release later this year.  A snippet from the pre-production demo of “Go Crazy” can be heard on the music page at www.juicy2fresh.com.

With potential hit records in hand, Juicy began the start-up work for Deux Frais Records.  She sought the strategic planning and creative problem solving skills of her mother KiKi Miller to approach the business of music from a 2fresh perspective.  After seeing news stories about recording artists who had sold millions of records and then gone bankrupt, their first priority was in designing a business model where the artist could share more equitably in the revenue generated by their talent.

This led to Deux Frais Records abandoning the notion of a recording contract in favor of partnering with the artist to establish and co-own a “celebrity enterprise,” a business focused on growing, evolving, and generating revenue from their celebrity status.  Unlike some record labels that exploit an artist for an album or two and move on to the next act, Deux Frais Records partners with the artist for the long-term, implementing strategies to ensure they can still profit from their celebrity status long after record sales decline.

In an industry with shrinking sales, Juicy also felt it would be critical to listen more to the customer and to collaborate with them in defining the future of music.  Believing it futile to think of potential customers as fans, Juicy recognizes them as her strongest influencers.  Thus, the global urban community of the 2fresh Rebels was founded to tap into the style, attitude, and diverse preferences of urban music enthusiasts from around the world while challenging them to “…dare 2 dream…dare 2 be different…dare 2 be 2fresh!”  A website is in development that will allow 2fresh Rebels to communicate and collaborate with Juicy despite language barriers.

Recognizing the importance of radio in promoting music, juicy2fresh and Deux Frais Records seek to actively contribute to the success of their friends in radio (terrestrial, satellite, and online) and club and party DJ’s worldwide.  Juicy will provide music, interviews, and promos to any radio station or professional DJ submitting a request via the Radio and DJ Requests form at the Deux Frais Records website or sending an email to radioteam@deuxfraisrecords.com.  With the exception of scheduling conflicts, she plans to attend all radio industry or station events when invited.  To create an opportunity for radio staff and DJs to meet Juicy and see her perform, a Radio and Rebels tour is being planned for Spring 2013.
