Boomi Pooja performed fordrinking water project sponsored by Sterlite Copper at Vadakkusilukkanpatti
Sterlite Industries India Limited (SIIL) is the principal subsidiary of Vedanta Resources plc, a diversified and integrated FTSE 100 metals and mining company, with principal operations located in India and Australia.
The scope of the work includes construction of two borewells, commissioning of eight syntax water tanks with 1000 litres capacity and laying water pipeline covering 2200 meters.
Sterlite decided to sponsor the project based on the request from the villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village. The cost for this project is Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs 2.7 lakh will be contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution.
The project will be implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self Sufficiency Scheme’. It will benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.
Sterlite Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running of evening study centre and rural health clinic.
