Trenton, Ontario – Excitement flowed through Walleye World Derby headquarters tent in Centennial Park Trenton on Sunday, May 06, 2012. Many event participants gathered to watch big prizes given away for big fish caught at this season opener event. Walleye World Live Release Fishing Derby sees over 4000 participants annually and raises money for youth community programs in Quinte.

“There was some great competition this year,” says Remco de Gooyer, derby chair. The winning Walleye was a 11.5 pounder caught by Marco McRae. Marco won a 2012 16 Lund Fury Tiller with a 25hp Mercury and trailer. The winning Pike weighed 16.6 pounds caught by Dave Dodd who won a 2012 Lund WD 14, 9.9 Mercury and a trailer. “We are able to offer such great boats as prizes because of the continued support we receive from Bay Marine,” continued de Gooyer.

Charles Barlow took Second Place Walleye winning a fly in fishing trip for four people with White River Air. Third Place Walleye goes to Dave Lockridge who won a fishing charter with West Lake Willows. Second Place Pike was won by Greg Valleau winning a five night stay at Merland Park. Two tagged fish were caught this year; one weighed in at Harbourview Marina and the other at Sunrise Cottage Resorts. Both fish gave the lucky anglers $1000 cash. These tagged fish were sponsored by Pro Tackle in Belleville and Aleesha J Camp Professional Corp of Trenton.

“There were many great activities at headquarters this year,” said Kristina Walt, derby coordinator. Residents came down to see the fish in the 50 foot tank, climb a rock wall from Extreme Rush, race in Everstart Batteries’ similar and enjoy live music by Wrought Iron Roots and Steve Piticco. Great food was available from Kiss the Cook, the Ameliasburg Firefighters, and Primitive Cuisine.
