Green Blessings Therapeutic Massage & Holistic Wellness Center Opens In Southbury, Connecticut

May 8, 2012 - PRLog -- In April 2012, Licensed Massage Therapist Laura Ahern, and her business partner and mother, Cheryl Drown, both residents of Southbury, opened the Green Blessings Center, LLC, a therapeutic massage and holistic wellness center at 774 Main Street South in the building shared with Attorney Gerald L. Carey located across from the gazebo at Southbury Green.

The newly-opened Green Blessings Center features “Time is of The Essence” Series with 30 minute massages for head and shoulders or hands and feet or back massage; 60 to 120 minute relaxing Swedish massages or customized massages. “For individualized custom massages,” Ahern explained, “several modalities are used including Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Swedish, Cold Stone Therapy, Trigger Point Release, Sports Massage Techniques, and others to create a massage that is unique to each individuals body's needs.”

Green Blessings Center’s Ahern also specializes in Hot Stone Massages which she described as, “Traditional massage techniques incorporating therapeutic hydrotherapy through the use of hot, cold or alternating hot and cold stones to gain a desired effect. Hot Stone Massage is beneficial for muscle soreness, stress relief, promoting relaxation. It allows the client to gain an awareness of tension he or she may be holding in their body to let it go. Cold stone used in combination with hot stones helps with injury rehabilitation and is less invasive than ice. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.” For further relaxation, Ahern also adds aromatherapy and body rejuvenation techniques to the Hot Stone Massages upon request.

As a certified traditional Usui Reiki Master (Usui Shiki Ryoho) since April 2010, Ahern features this distinctive Japanese form of energy body work in 60 minute sessions. “Reiki supports the body's natural ability to heal itself and restore balance in one's life,” she explained. “Reiki is a healing modality used to reduce stress, aid in pain management, speed recovery from illness and surgery, and mentally support those coping with traumatic life changes and issues. During a 60-minute massage session, I combine traditional Swedish massage techniques with the natural healing energy of Reiki to aid in the release of blockages in the body’s energetic nervous system which helps to speed recovery from dis-ease and promotes stress relief and relaxation.”

Another Green Blessings Center specialty offering is Sports Massage which is a type of massage usually thought of as being designed for highly active people who engage in athletic activities. “Everyone can benefit from Sports Massage,” stated Ahern. “Not only can it be used by athletes for optimal performance, event recovery and enhanced training, it can be used to rehabilitate injuries, reduce chronic pain and release restricted range of motion. During Sports Massage sessions, a specific problem area of the body is targeted by the therapist using techniques such as trigger point therapy to break down knots in muscles, Swedish massage which stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids, and stretching to increase range of motion.”

Laura Ahern is nationally-certified in massage and bodywork by the NCBTMB (The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork). She is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association and has been a licensed Reiki Master Teacher since 2010. In 2011 she graduated with honors from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy (CCMT) in Westport, Connecticut where she is listed on the Center’s Approved Tutor List and has worked as an assistant teacher since March in the Center’s Clinic for Energetic Foundations.

Currently Ahern is studying to become professionally certified in MotherMassage® with Elaine Stillerman, founder. She anticipates securing her professional certificate this May and will begin offering this very unique specialty at the Green Blessings Center in June. Ahern is also taking continuing education classes at CCMT to learn additional modalities.
