Discover your own Eat, Pray, Love with the winemaking women of Barolo.
This September a specially designed tour in Italy’s Piedmont region invites women to sign on for a getaway inspired by Barolo’s Juliet Colbert, a wine pioneer in the 1800’s, and the passionate, entrepreneurial women who follow in her footsteps.
It’s a chance for women of any age to reconnect with their passions, take time for themselves and enjoy being taken care of by others for a change. Led by Vancouver’s Italian travel aficionado and consummate guide, “Mama” Margaret, they will enjoy discovering some of Italy’s best wines made by modern day Piedmontese women winery owners, cook local dishes with wonderful home cooks, walk the beautiful countryside and be inspired by the women’s life stories shared over good food and great reds.
Still a minority in a male dominated industry, the women they will meet are also at different stages of their lives. Aged between 30 – 70 years, they are proud of their accomplishments, having survived young widowhood, doubt and economic uncertainty and they are happy to share their stories and hope their visitors will come away more inspired about the next stage of their own lives.
Margaret Cowan of Mama Margaret & Friends, first led cooking and wine tours in the Barolo wine country in 1995 and has developed strong friendships with the local community, founding her own inspiration in their stories. This is no surprise as women have always found encouragement and support from other women – developing life long friendships while sharing life stories, tears and laughter. This tour is a chance to recharge while eating rather well, learning about some of Italy’s top wines or just hanging out and relaxing.
Sip, laugh, share – group hug anyone?
Cost for a group of 4 to 8 members is 2590 Euros per person or about $3500 Cdn at current exchange rates. Date: September 9-15. For more information, see www.italycookingschools.com/
