Legacy Trust Award Collection Announces Venue for 2012 ArtPrize
The three winning artists of the Legacy Trust Award Collection will have their work displayed during the 2012 ArtPrize competition at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
For the third year, Legacy Trust and Artists Creating Together, formerly VSA Arts, have co-sponsored a statewide spring art competition for adult artists with disabilities in an effort to bring their voices and vision to ArtPrize. This year's public vote will be held on Friday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Ledyard Building in downtown Grand Rapids, where two of the artists will be chosen. Additionally, a panel of celebrity Grand Rapids judges will select the third artist during a private reception the night before. The three winners will be entered in the 2012 ArtPrize competition as part of the LTAC.
All ArtPrize venues are open for public viewing beginning on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. In addition to the LTAC artists, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel will host additional artists from around the state and country.
“We are pleased that our artists' work will be displayed at the Amway Grand Plaza,” said William Walker, president and CEO of Legacy Trust. “This is a wonderful location to show off the tremendously talented artists that will be selected later this month as part of the Legacy Trust Award Collection. It will ensure that many ArtPrize visitors will have the opportunity to see the passion and talent of these amazing artists, and hopefully vote for them during the competition.”
Artists from all genres are invited to participate in the competition, which will continue to accept submissions until May 7. All artwork must be delivered to Artists Creating Together in Grand Rapids by 11 a.m. on May 17 for the voting artists’ reception. For additional requirements, please visit, http://legacygr.com/
ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids decided solely on a public vote, returns to Grand Rapids for its fourth year on Sept. 19-Oct. 7. It debuted with much enthusiasm in 2009 and participation soared in 2010 and 2011. This year is expected to see a continued increase in community engagement and entries.
