Montgomery County Toastmasters Hold First Outdoor Meeting on May Day 2012.

May 6, 2012 - PRLog -- There were 8 club members present at the May Day 2012 meeting of the Montgomery County Toastmasters Club.  Due to a scheduling conflict inside the Challacombe House which is their normal meeting place coupled with the beautiful unseasonably warm weather, the club instead met by the gazebo behind the Challacombe House.  

The Toastmaster was former club president Jackie Rakers of Ohlman.  One first-time guest, Wayne Woods from Woods Basement Systems was also in attendance.

The prepared speaker was Mike Meier of Hillsboro who delivered an inspirational speech called "Oh Yes, You Can!".  This was project # 10 from the Toastmasters Competent Communication manual (also known as 'The Basic Manual').  By completing this project, Meier, a DTM or Distinguished Toastmaster, has now completed the qualifications for his 3rd CC or Competent Communicator award.  Meier is a 7 year veteran Toastmasters International member who has belonged to clubs in Texas, China, South Korea and Illinois.  Mike recently moved back to his hometown of Hillsboro from Seoul, South Korea where he still belongs to the Advanced Toastmasters Club of Seoul.  

Immediate past club president Bill Guthrie served as the leader of the impromptu speaking portion of the program which is called 'Table Topics'.  Of the 5 club members who were given a question to answer, Jackie Rakers was voted the "Best Table Topic Speaker" of the evening.

The club will next meet at the Challacombe House in Hillsboro on Tuesday May 15th from 7 to 8 PM.  The prepared speakers will be Todd Austin and Dennis Viehweg.  All area residents who are interested in becoming better leaders and / or communicators are encouraged to attend.  Please visit the club website for more info at:  http://1252478.toastmastersclubs.org/
