Follow on Google News | CommonWealth One Held Community Shred Days on April 28th in Alexandria and Harrisonburg, VAMembers and the public were invited to shred their documents for free, plus enjoy light refreshments and celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week.
In Alexandria, Safeguard Shredding was on-site to securely shred materials while participants waited. 9,600 pounds of documents were shredded. In addition to the free shredding, attendees enjoyed free light refreshments, plus games and fun activities that highlighted the end of the National Credit Union Youth Week. One lucky member won four free tickets to a Washington Nationals baseball game. More than twenty T.C. Williams High School Academy of Finance (“AOF”) students volunteered at the event as well as sold drinks to raise money for their program. Two students dressed up as superheroes to promote National Credit Union Youth Week during the event and painted children’s faces. The AOF program promotes financial literacy among students by preparing and exposing them to the world of business. CommonWealth One helps them achieve this goal by giving these students the opportunity and the experience of working for a financial institution and other special projects. H&R Contractors shredded a total of 1,749 pounds of documents at the Harrisonburg Regional Branch, which was an increase of 944 pounds over last year. Attendees also enjoyed free light refreshments as well as National Credit Union Youth Week games and activities. Staff wore Super Saver t-shirts to promote saving, plus a super hero was on hand to play games and entertain children. A free hot air balloon ride was raffled to the attendees. The local radio station, WJDV, also broadcasted live during the event. Branch Managers and staff were on hand to answer questions about mortgages, auto loans, checking/savings accounts, online account opening, and e-Services, including Mobile Web Banking and Text Banking as well as other financial products and services.
