May 8, 2012 - PRLog -- DOYLESTOWN, PA, May 5, 2012 – Asherah’s Gourmet of Doylestown, PA is proud to announce that the Vegetarian Times, after sampling the hottest vegetarian products, has nominated Asherah’s Original flavor Vegan Burger for their 2012 Foodie Awards.

Asherah’s Original Vegan Burger (http://www.asherahsgourmet.com) is certified 100% organic, gluten free and vegan. The recipe is based on quinoa and vegetables and is free of the top ten food allergens including soy. The recipe includes ingredients such as sweet potatoes, carrots and flax. Quinoa, once a sacred crop of the Inca’s, is considered one of the new super foods. It provides all 9 essential amino acids making it an excellent source of protein for vegetarians.

Nutritionally, Asherah’s Gourmet Vegan Burger is rated as an excellent source of fiber, vitamin A and magnesium. It is also rated as a good source of protein, potassium, vitamin B6, copper, folate, iron and phosphorous. It has the lowest salt content of any veggie burger on the market and has only 180 calories for a quarter pound serving.
The Vegetarian Times has been at the forefront of the healthy living movement for 30 years, providing delicious recipes, expert wellness information and environmentally sound lifestyle solutions to a wide variety of individuals. As a help to their readers they have sampled all the hottest vegetarian products to pick their favorite kitchen staples.

They have narrowed down the list to 85 tasty nominations—and now the public is invited to vote by May 31, 2012. You can vote at http://www.vegetariantimes.com/contests-challenges/2012fo....

After it’s humble beginnings to satisfy concerned mothers in Asherah’s cooking classes, word quickly spread about the new “pure” quinoa vegan burger. In two years the product has spread to over 200 retail and restaurant locations in 20 states including over 100 Whole Foods Markets.

This is a great accomplishment for vegans and those intolerant to soy or gluten. Studies show one in 130 people have celiac disease, and it’s believed that gluten intolerance or sensitivity is as much as one in seven. In addition, according to the Cornucopia Institute, most veggie burger brands are contaminated with “hexane” a neuro-toxin and solvent used to create soy protein isolate.

Recently, the Presidents panel on Cancer Prevention recommended eating organic foods free of pesticides and herbicides in order to lower their risk of developing cancer. There are very few organic vegan/veggie burgers on the marketplace. Of those that exist, even fewer are 100% organic. This makes Asherah’s Gourmet a leader and a big plus for consumers concerned about protecting their health.

“Asherah’s Gourmet veggie burgers are food chemistry perfection”, says Dr. Anabelle Morales, Assistant Professor of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition. “An earthy, dark, and warm appearance…a dense, smooth texture…flavorful aroma…and delicious, rich, mouth-watering flavor…an amazing smell and taste interaction! These veggie burgers nourish my body, helping to promote and maintain good health.
