May 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Stuart, FL— Beginning May 1 cable TV viewers in our area will see a new TV commercial to bring awareness to National Foster Care Month. The message of the commercial is that you don’t need to be a super hero with a cape or Spiderman to help a child in need; you just need to provide a safe home and a lot of love.

The commercials are made possible due to the sponsorship of the personal injury law firm of Goldstein, Schmitt and Wade, PL. whose main office is in Stuart.  Christina Kaiser, Director of Community Relations for United for Families, contacted Attorney Lauri J. Goldstein several months ago to set up the arrangement.

“This commercial is a critical outreach tool for us because it allows us to reach a great number of people with one of our greatest needs - foster homes,” commented Kaiser.  “Goldstein, Schmitt and Wade, PL have been great supporters of United for Families in the past and we truly appreciate their willingness to help us again.”

Kaiser went on to note that there have been many great changes in child welfare over the last several years but unfortunately, there are still more children in need of a home than homes to put them in.  United for Families is partnering with Hibiscus Children’s Center to recruit new foster parents and build a larger inventory of approved homes.

In Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River County there are approximately 1300 children in need of agency services. Approximately half of all children in dependency care are still living at home and receiving services. Children who are in “out-of-home” care are either in licensed foster homes, shelters on a temporary basis, relative care, non-relative care such as a neighbor or group homes. In Florida, there are approximately 9000 children in need of a home.

Each May, National Foster Care Month provides an opportunity to shine a light on the experiences of the more than 400,000 children and youth in the foster care system. The campaign raises awareness about the urgent needs of these young people and encourages citizens from every walk of life to get involved – as foster or adoptive parents, volunteers, mentors, employers or in other ways.
