First-Ever Partnership to Advance Diversity, Inclusion & U.S. Foreign Policy
The International Society of Diversity & Inclusion Professionals Partners with the U.S. Department of State and SHRM to Help Diversity Leaders Gain a Global View of Foreign Policy
In early June, the U.S. Department of State, in partnership with the ISDIP and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), will host an innovative invitation-only wisdom session entitled "Diversity, Inclusion & U.S. Foreign Policy." This exclusive invitation-only event will be the first time a diversity and inclusion think tank of public- and private-sector diversity and inclusion leaders gathers to study the intersection of diversity, inclusion, and U.S. foreign policy with a global focus. One hundred diversity and inclusion thought leaders from public and private sectors were invited to participate in the day-long wisdom session.
Chief diversity officers and other thought leaders from Harvard University, Walmart, Sodexo, Cornell University, United Way Worldwide, Abercrombie & Fitch, Merck, World Bank, YMCA, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cleveland State University, Boston Scientific, Weyerhaeuser, Citigroup, American Airlines, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Bank of America are some of the participants.
The morning of this day-long session will be dedicated to learning about an array of federal diversity and inclusion initiatives. State Department leaders will present the many different ways in which it promotes diversity in its diplomatic work. The afternoon will be a working session to begin establishing a brand-new diversity and inclusion curriculum that will be accessible to practitioners on the topic.
"This historic wisdom session is the result of a strategic planning session last year between representatives from the U.S. Department of State and the International Society of Diversity and Inclusion Professionals' Advisory Board," says Cassandra D. Caldwell, Ph.D., founder and chief executive officer of the International Society of Diversity and Inclusion Professionals. Because foreign policy affects all leaders, public and private, senior-level managers and diversity and inclusion thought leaders from corporations, nonprofit organizations, and universities with a global reach will be in attendance.
