New JRP English Learning Program Courses

May 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The English Learning Program (ELP) of John Robert Powers Manila opens up new doors to learning with these new course offerings:

•   Big Talk for Small Ones
This is a 20-hour oral communication workshop for pre-teens (ages 8-11) that aims to help young learners become effective speakers of English by introducing them to the importance of proper articulation of sounds and pronunciation of words, proper voice modulation, and different speaking techniques.

•   In (good) English, please:
A 20-hour oral communication workshop for teens (ages 12-16), this course addresses the needs of Filipino teenagers who cannot fully express their ideas in oral English. This focuses on articulation of sounds and pronunciation of words, and the application of these in different speaking situations.

•   (Good) English Zone
This is a 20-hour workshop on effective oral communication for the professionals. This aims to make Filipino professionals not only speakers who have good pronunciation and enunciation but also speakers who are socio-linguistically appropriate in different contexts and situations.

•   Speed Readers, Bright Learners
This is a 20-hour speed reading workshop for pre-teens that aims to teach children, ages 8-12 to become effective readers of English literacy materials. The objectives are to help them develop higher order thinking skills (HOTS), to improve comprehension under a timed-reading environment, to expand their vocabulary and help them use new words and expressions appropriately, and to help them appreciate literary works.

•   Reading into Writing
This is a 20-hour workshop in Creative Writing for Teens and Young Adults. Anchored on the premise that the best readers are also the best writers, this course aims to encourage young learners to appreciate reading and writing by first introducing them to the different genres of texts and eventually guiding them to create their own pieces.

•   Writing In and Out of the Box
This 30-hour course on Business and Technical Writing for the Professionals aims to refresh the Filipino professional’s knowledge in one of the most important skills in English, the written skill. The main objective is to provide them with functional English that would come in handy in the work place (i.e. in making business correspondence, in handling meetings, in negotiating, etc).
