Ex-AC/DC Bassist Mark Evans Recalls Bon Scott Arriving Late to Band's 1976 Hammersmith Odeon Debut

Former AC/DC Bassist Mark Evans Recalls Bon Scott Arriving Late to the Band's 1976 Debut Hammersmith Odeon Appearance

May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Bassist Mark Evans joined AC/DC as a bar band playing for twenty people in 1975, and he remained part of the band through their first international tours, contributing to the Bon Scott-era albums: High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap, T.N.T., Let There Be Rock, and the US-only '74 Jailbreak collection. Mark recently discussed his acclaimed new book DIRTY DEEDS: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC (Bazillion Points Books), with Bass Musician magazine, covering topics including late AC/DC singer Bon Scott:

"I distinctly recall was the first time we were headlining in London, at this venue called the Hammersmith Odeon," says Evans. "That is a great venue, a great indicator that you're on your way. It's a serious gig, we were getting ready to go on and Bon wasn't there! Earlier in the day he had decided to take the subway to the gig. Bon being Bon, he had a few drinks beforehand so he was feeling a bit relaxed. Needless to say he got on the right train going the wrong way! He ended up not showing up until 15 minutes after we were supposed to be on stage. Normally in that situation you're kind of like "what the F!", but as an indicator of what kind of a guy he was, he showed up and in his own cordial way said, 'I'm sorry guys lets go out there and play!' and we weren't angry. We knew he would never do anything like that on purpose and that he was such a warm soul. You couldn't get mad at him for more than a couple of minutes."

Mark Evans' first-ever inside account of life in the classic AC/DC band includes countless tales of life on the road with Bon Scott, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Phil Rudd, from the barrooms of Australia to the palatial theaters of Paris and Stockholm.
