A Walk a Day Keeps Chronic Illness at Bay!
Is walking becoming the new prescription for health? As Canadian Physicians start prescribing exercise to their patients as a way to combat illness and disease, the Canadian Walking Academy launches their Inaugural Walking Events across the Country.

Since 70% of Canadians claim that walking is their preferred physical activity, The Canadian Walking Academy is launching walking programs for everyday people– to get people moving, get them moving effectively and with maximum benefit, and do it in a low-cost environment that’s accessible to all. New research proves that raising fitness levels will help to prevent the most common diseases and reduce or even eliminate the need for prescription drugs. It’s been proven that 75% of lifestyle-related diseases can be prevented through regular physical activity, and yet only 15% of Canadians meet the minimum exercise standard of 30 minutes of moderate daily activity.
Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck, Founder of Nordixx Pole Walking Canada, says that while this program is not new to Nordixx Pole Walking, the creation of an Academy to promote walking for health should give Canadians an official organization to consult with and help kick-start the practice, along with additional supports to maintain their motivation. “Through our Canadian Walking Academy we are trying to provide greater educational opportunities and practical instruction to Canadians.” says Dr. Klaus, “This more formal association will benefit our existing partnerships with major health organizations like The Canadian Diabetes Association who for example have actually launched downloadable exercise prescriptions for Doctors and will give five prescription options for patients based on their activity and fitness levels”.

Dr. Klaus explains that some of the objectives for the Canadian Walking Academy Program are to:
1. Educate people on the benefits of Walking and Nordic Pole Walking.
2. Educate about walking programs that help to prevent or “cure” most common chronic diseases.
3. Educate ‘walkers’ on how to choose the right walking program to achieve individual goals, like Fitness, weight loss,
diabetes, high blood pressure, back pain, neck pain and others.
4. Explaining scientific studies in lay terms regarding their health benefits.
5. Provide recommendations on how to make regular walking as a part of active life style.
