By: The Red Lion Brill Not long after The Red Lion came under new management, it closed on the 2nd of January 2012 for refurbishment work to give the pub a facelift and help it carry on its recent success well into the future. The owners, David and Fiona Howden, had this to say on how the work was progressing: “Thanks to our fantastic team the building work is going really well. It’s been a journey back through time in many ways – rescuing ancient walls and old stonework has been both a challenge and a pleasure as we begin to see this amazing set of buildings restored to its former glory, some of which date back to the days of Agincourt. The main pub and bar area has seen some dramatic changes; not least the brand new picture window that looks out over the village of Brill and the restoration of the fantastic wooden beams that have certainly stood the test of time. Light, airy, warm and, above all, welcoming.” To support the pubs new Chef and kitchen staff, the old barn is being transformed into an elegant restaurant space which will allow diners to gaze at the stars during their meals with brand-new skylights. Working with Historic Buildings, the out-buildings are being turned into a butchers and farmers shop which will extend the pubs desire of delivering good quality, locally sourced food to its customers.
