Energizer's Corporate Responsibilty Efforts Keep Going and Going

May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- When Energizer's Leadership Academy participants checked in to the InterContinental at Doral Miami, the hotel staff thought it would be like any other corporate meeting being held. However, within 24 hours the Energizer’s team building and training became a real life, hands on experience. Energizer, with the support of the hotel, raised over $2,500.00 for The American Cancer Society’s “Relay For Life of Doral.”

The hotel assisted the Energizer team in identifying the charitable initiative as a part of their global leadership meeting. Lourdes Mejia, Senior Sales Manager, contacted the City of Doral’s Vice Mayor and Honorary Chair of the Doral Relay For Life, Michael DiPietro, and Economic Development Coordinator, Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera and the fundraising began.

Ms. Mejia arranged with senior management to help the Energizer Leadership Academy team approach guests, set up donation buckets at the front desk, put up posters created for the cause by Energizer, and donated a weekend stay as a raffle, part of the fundraising task. “It was a phenomenal experience. The fundraising task was also team building and brought everything that we were learning this week to life,” said Donna Brinkmeyer, Leader, U.S. Specialty Batteries at Energizer.

By the end of a 2-day impromptu fundraising campaign, Energizer presented a $2,504.19 check to Beatriz Newborn, the American Cancer Society Community Representative for the City of Doral, during a ceremony set up by the hotel in the Palm Court. “InterContinental at Doral Miami has been a great supporter of Relay For Life for several years and to have them encourage Energizer to choose the American Cancer Society for this short notice project was a wonderful surprise.  We are grateful for the hard work that Energizer put forth during this activity and to InterContinental Doral for their continued support in the fight against cancer.” said Ms. Newborn.

The InterContinental at Doral Miami has been a supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Doral for over five years.  For 10 years the Relay For Life of Doral has united the community for its annual family friendly overnight fundraising event where teams of people camp out in the name of cancer, walk the track for the cause, and gather for food, games and entertainment activities.
