Free Report will Help Business Professionals Manage Difficult Bosses

Falls Church, Va. — Call them what you will—toxic bosses, controlling bosses, just plain pain-in-the backside bosses—lousy managers are a fact of life in the workplace. An employee could always quit, but in a down job market, that’s easier said than done.

Business Management Daily’s The Bully Boss Strikes Again! How to deal with bosses who make crazy requests will teach business professionals how to handle these difficult bosses who make ridiculous requests. Business Management Daily is offering this report as a free gift to thank administrative professionals for their responses to the questions it asked throughout April to prepare for Administrative Professionals Week (April 23-27). These questions were posted on its Admin Pro Forum blog and LinkedIn group. The Bully Boss Strikes Again! also includes stories of the craziest things bosses have ever asked their administrative assistants to do.

“This report will teach you how to identify exactly what kind of negative boss you’ve got and then develop strategies for handling him or her,” says Business Management Daily’s Senior Web Editor Elizabeth Hall.

Here are tips on outlasting a toxic boss from Dr. Marie G. McIntyre, who answers management and office politics on Business Management Daily’s Your Office Coach blog:

Accept that your boss has the authority to tell you what to do. It doesn’t matter that you’re smarter, that he doesn’t deserve the job or that he’s obnoxious. He’s your boss and you’re stuck with him (at least for now). Working to increase your influence will be more productive than rebelling or whining.

Refuse to expect perfection. You already know she’s fallible. Go with it. Figure out what sets her off—and then avoid pushing her buttons.

Study your boss’s management style. How does he like to work? Receive information? Not sure what he wants in terms of results, processes or productivity? Ask! If he’s at all reasonable, he’ll gladly answer.

Make your boss look good. Deliver results, be a good team member and stay on schedule and under budget. Be responsive when others seek information or assistance from you. Seek out problems to solve. Don’t be shy about sharing ideas and information.

“You can’t always control your boss,” McIntyre says. “However, you do have a great deal of control over your own work and career—even if your boss is crazy.”
