April 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Leading business continuity consultancy Steelhenge has noted a significant increase in companies requesting assistance with their business continuity planning ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.

This follows publication of ‘Preparing for the Olympics Top 10 Tips’ which can be downloaded here http://www.steelhenge.co.uk/latest-news/steelhenge-news/82-top-ten-tips-to-increase-your-business-resilience or call 0845 094 2117.

“In the last month we have seen a significant increase in the number of organisations requesting support with their business continuity preparations prior to London 2012,” said Isobel Nicholas, Director of Communications for Steelhenge. “Some want their existing business continuity plans reviewed and exercises conducted with an Olympic scenario while others are starting their planning from scratch.”

When asked what kind of impact the London 2012 Olympics could have on UK businesses, Isobel replied; “The primary impact of the Olympics will be on people with higher than usual staff absenteeism expected due to time off to see events, volunteering at the Games, transport disruption meaning it’s harder to get to work and so on.  During previous Olympic Games, the estimated rate of absenteeism was 30% and is the current planning assumption for the London Games.  There’s also the transport issue,” Isobel continued. “As thousands of athletes, spectators and media travel to and from events, transport networks will be stretched, particularly in London.  This will not only directly affect staff but also have a knock on effect to their supply chain” Isobel explained.  “Staffing arrangements, communications, ICT, security and supply chain continuity all need to be considered.”

“Even though the Olympics are just around the corner, companies still have time to act and make sure they have plans in place to minimise the impact of the Games on their operations.” Isobel concluded.   “If companies act now it will provide an ongoing benefit not only for the Games itself but by improving business resilience in the longer term too.”
