Carla "The Singing Patient" Ulbrich Featured Speaker at Toastmasters District 83 Spring Conference

April 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Carla Ulbrich, known as “The Singing Patient” will present her workshop “Laughter: The Best Medicine” at the Toastmasters International District 83 Annual Spring Conference planned for Saturday, May 5 through Sunday, May 6 at the Morristown Hyatt, 3 Speedwell Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960.

Carla (The Singing Patient) Ulbrich, (http://www.thesingingpatient.com), is a musical medical comedian who performs keynote speeches and comedy concerts for patients, healthcare workers, caregivers, nurses, and physicians.  During Ulbrich’s workshop, attendees will learn the difference between healthy and unhealthy humor, the health and psychological benefits of laughter and humor, and a few tips for incorporating humor into your daily life.  

The annual two day event, sponsored by Toastmasters International District 83, has as its theme “Knowledge is Power, Public Speaking is Empowering". Hundreds of Toastmasters members in the Metropolitan New Jersey, Rockland County, Staten Island area — as well as their family, friends, and the general public — will gather together to attend educational presentations on how to sharpen their public speaking, communication and leadership skills.

In addition to the conference educational sessions, District 83’s top-notch speakers will compete in the District 83 International Speech Contest scheduled for Saturday and the District 83 International Evaluation Contest for Sunday morning. Both days of the conference promise to be packed with fun, excitement and learning.

Carla (The Singing Patient) Ulbrich is a comical singer-songwriter http://www.thesingingpatient.com, humorist, and author from Clemson, South Carolina and currently living in Somerset, NJ.  

Carla Ulbrich is a medical musical comedian, keynote speaker, and author currently living in New Jersey. Her songs, keynotes, and book are all based on her humorous take of the life of a patient with several chronic and sometimes catastrophic illnesses. She performs for conventions and other gatherings of patients, caregivers, nurses, and other medical professionals.

Since 1997, Carla has been singing her humorous songs all over the US and England. She has appeared on Sirius XM Radio, USA TV, the BBC, Dr. Demento, and The Bob and Sherrie Show and venues such as the Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals, Club Med, and the famed Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. In 2002, Carla's touring was interrupted when she fell very ill with kidney failure and a stroke. As part of her recovery, she wrote a bunch of humorous medical songs lampooning her frustrating experience with the US health care system, resulting in the CD "Sick Humor."

2011 saw the release of Carla's book of humorous essays about those same medical adventures, entitled "How Can You NOT Laugh at a Time Like This?" (pub: Tell Me Press). This book was awarded the Lupus Foundation of America's Seal of Approval.

Carla is a certified health coach and is also back on the road touring performing at gatherings for patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers. She brings hope, lightness, and humor to audiences who could really use a laugh.  

Ulbrich joined the Somerset Toastmasters Club in October 2010.  “As a member of Toastmasters, I have learned to better organize my speaking content, to use more of the stage and have better stage presence (body language), and am learning to be a leader (I am VPE of my club),” said Ulbrich.
