April 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The White Swan is a 17th Century Freehouse and Restaurant located in the heart of the picturesque village of Stow cum Quy near Cambridge. The pub is a few miles from the beautiful and historic Anglesey Abbey which is a beautiful ancient house and garden owned and operated by the National Trust.

The White Swan today announced its first Wine Club will take place on Monday 30th April 2012 at 8:00 pm in the main restaurant.

The objective of the wine club is simply to spend a little quality time learning about wines of the world in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The first meeting is entitled "Seven Classic Grapes" with the idea that the attendees "blind taste"  three red, three white and a mystery wine.  Martin Read, who is running the event said "We have worked with our wine merchant, Bacchanalia to select a range of classic grapes so that everyone has an opportunity to taste the well established varieties. Each wine will be assessed for colour, aroma, body and finish and then we will compare notes to see what agreement and diversity of taste exists"

Wine will be available for sale if required by wine members and a special discount has been agreed with the wine merchants for the event.

He added, "In future meetings we will introduce more diverse grapes and blends so that we build up a good knowledge of great wines".

The restaurant at The White Swan at Quy is popular at lunchties and evenings so it is booked as the venue on Monday evening. The main bar will be open as normal serving a full range of bar and restaurant food and real ales.

So far about 20 people have signed up for the wine club so it looks like being fairly popular with both locals and visitors to the area.

The Wine Club is part of the summer activities planned by Tyche Inns Ltd across its Cambridge based pubs, others include "Really Interesting Talks" where local people have an opportunity to present and discuss aspects of their areas of expertise and beer festivals where a wide range of different beers, ales and ciders are offered.

The White Swan is developing a new genre of social entertainment as it successfully blends a local communty pub with a great restaurant serving modern british food.
