Motivational Day Releases New Article To Be Featured Online

April 25, 2012 - PRLog -- The founder of Taoism--the philosophy of living in accord with all other things in existence--Lao Tzu is known for several well-known quotes, and the subject of many motivational books. One of my favorite motivational quotes by the great is: “Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” Earlier in my entrepreneurial career I gave a lot of weight to the thoughts and words of others. Luckily for me, and those in my circle, I read a variety of motivational books, and I no longer give credence to the negative thoughts of others. This is not to say that heeding the advice of proven individuals is unwise. In fact, saving you time is often the result of this practice.

What I believe Tzu was speaking to was being secure in yourself and your abilities. Being confident within yourself ranks supreme, and warrants your full dedication. Years ago I met a hard-working lady that wanted to start her own business. She and her husband had regular day jobs to which they reported to weekly. I have the utmost respect for those individuals that commit themselves to their employers, and are both responsible and dependable. But my friend wanted more from life and herself. She wanted to be financially free, and thought that could only happen by embarking on a new business venture. Her husband was dead set against it. The reason he gave was because a friend of his once operated a business that failed. Naturally, he thought that she was unwise to want to open a new business.

My friend, with her husband’s eventual support started her business and achieved success with it. She proved to herself, her husband, and all those in her circle, that what she thought was more important than what others thought. She didn’t allow the failed business attempts of her husband’s friend to deter her from her dream. I took great pride recently in listening to her rattle off the titles to several motivational books she had read.

We must all face the ups and downs of life. Trouble at home, work and elsewhere cannot always be avoided. Sometimes the motivation needed to meet these challenges directly, only appear to us after we have graduated from the “school of hard knocks.” Other times achievement comes to us swiftly in the form of a quote or book, and we just get it.
