FightScience Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Student Tyler Hurry Claims another Major Jiu-Jitsu Win

Flagler Beach, FL – FightScience Gracie academy is proud to announce that their student, and Flagler County resident, Tyler Hurry has just claimed another championship title. This time it’s in the Pan American Games of Jiu-Jitsu. Hurry earned the gold medal and a Lightweight Blue Belt Division Champion title. His last win in November was a World Championship Middleweight Blue Belt gold medal.

A total of 3200 fighters traveled from all over the world to Irvine, CA to fight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over four days. Hurry left Florida on April 4th to join ‘the best of the best’ and returned on the 9th. “There were competitors from several different countries,” Hurry said, “It’s an honor to add this win to my fight resume,” he added.

Hurry competed in five fights. He won four by submission and the championship by points, again going “un-scored” on. This is an even bigger win than by the Jiu-Jitsu point system. This means that four of his opponents ‘tapped out’, or ‘gave in’, to Hurry.

It’s been just a little over one year since Hurry had neck surgery. Competing and winning at this level was a success toward the mental aspect of Hurry’s abilities, not just physical. One of his sponsors that assisted in getting him to the competition, Palm Coast based Wellness One Chiropractic, has also helped to get Hurry’s neck in working order for him to train and compete.

In addition to his rigorous Jiu-Jitsu training schedule, and keeping his diet where it needs to be to qualify for the lightweight division (163 lbs), Hurry has been working at Flagler Fish Company, as well as interning at Flagler Palm Coast County School system. He is set to graduate with his teaching degree at the end of the month on April 29th.

“I wouldn’t have been able to attend if it weren’t for my competition sponsors,” says Hurry. In addition to Wellness One Chiropractor, Palm Coast based Waterside Pools, and Kenny and Annette from Atomic Tattoo helped fund the trip.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is well-known as the most effective form of self-defense in the world. The art is known to have a positive impact on building self-confidence, getting in shape, relieving stress, and the Gracie family was the first to launch their kids “BullyProof” program. The moves in Jiu-Jitsu are comprised of throws, immobilizations, strikes, joint locks and chokes. Beyond the mat, members of the Gracie family live and promote healthy, balanced lives based on their unique, self-defense system, Gracie diet, and Bushido tenants.

Hurry trains with FightScience Gracie owner John Michael Quesinberry Kaleikini, and instructor Brandon Hetzler. The academy offers adult classes, private lessons, and children’s classes. They are located at 2517 Moody Blvd, in Flagler Beach, Florida and can be reached at 386-338-7815, or online at http://www.fightscience101.com, or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/FightScience101.
