Greyston’s Annual Benefit will Honor Carl E. Petrillo

Event raises funds to support community development efforts in Yonkers

April 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The Greyston Foundation, a Yonkers, New York-based pioneer in social enterprise, community development and social services, proudly announces its annual benefit will take place on Wednesday, May 16 at X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers, NY. The event will recognize Yonkers Contracting Company President, Carl E. Petrillo (of Yonkers) as this year’s Benefit Honoree for his contributions and dedication to the Yonkers community.

Well-known for Greyston Bakery, Greyston Foundation uses a whole-person approach, called PathMaking, to create jobs and provide integrated programs for individuals and their families to move forward on their path to self sufficiency. In addition to jobs at the Bakery, Greyston provides affordable housing for disadvantaged individuals, gives medical and holistic care to adults living with HIV, offers high-quality child care, teaches adolescents valuable life skills, engages public school children in hands-on environment education and provides employment and training opportunities to the hard to employ.

Carl E. Petrillo has served as the President and CEO of Yonkers Contracting since taking the family business over from his father in 1978. Building on his father’s success, Carl has guided the firm into one of the most well-respected businesses in the construction industry. The company is recognized for their work on some of the Tri-State areas most historic structures including, Grand Central Terminal, the Brooklyn Bridge and Penn Station. In addition to his success in the construction industry, Carl is a respected philanthropist and community leader. Carl has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to Yonkers through his personal and professional support of a wide range of organizations that are working to build a better Yonkers.

“Carl has displayed an unparalleled dedication to the Yonkers community and we are delighted to honor him at this year’s benefit. His active involvement in creating a better Yonkers goes in hand in hand with Greyston’s mission over the past thirty years,” said Edward Falkenberg, Chair of Greyston’s Board of Directors.

The Foundation will also honor a member of the Greyston community with the first Bernie Glassman Award. The Award recognizes achievement in an individual’s personal growth and movement along their path toward self-sufficiency. The award is in recognition of the founder of Greyston Bakery, Bernard Glassman. Glassman opened Greyston Bakery, in an effort to help alleviate the widespread homelessness in the area. Through the success of his bakery, Glassman then founded the Greyston Foundation which continues to help support the community.
