World Book & Copyright Day at JMA Pilani Rajasthan
April 23, 2012
-- April 23 is just no ordinary date as it's a symbolic date for world literature, for this day happens to be the birth or death date of many renowned authors who include Cervantes, Shakespeare, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejia Vallejo. The idea for this celebration originated in Catalonia in Spain where on 23 April, Saint George's Day, a rose was traditionally given as a gift for each book sold. By celebrating April 23 across the globe as World Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
Books are indeed the legacies that a great genius leaves to human race, which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet born. Considering that 2012 also marks the 80th anniversary of the Index Translationum, the theme chosen this year for focusing the celebrations is “Books & Translation.”
Established in the year, 2004 Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy – JMA which has been making rapid strides in early childhood education is presently one among the most sought after schools at Pilani. JMA Pilani which aims to be one among the top ranking schools in India today derives its inspiration from the quote “Information is just bits of data while knowledge is putting them together and wisdom is transcending them.” The school follows the rich tradition of observing various days of national and international importance on a regular basis to increase the current awareness among the students.
Addressing the students and teachers of JMA Pilani, Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan explained the significance of the day and urged the students to utilize the school library in the most responsible manner and reiterated the Martin Farquhar Tupper quote "A good book is the best of friends the same today and forever."
