The much-anticipated dark comedy will be screening first in a lineup of short films for the Festival's Monday evening program “Tickle Your Short Funny Bone.” The program plays one time only on April 30 at 4:15 PM at Triangle Square Theatre, 1870 Harbor Blvd in Costa Mesa, CA. Filmmaker Q&A to follow. Agorable is a comedic thriller about a suicidal shut-in who is forced into supernatural eviction when her building becomes a crime scene. The story was inspired by director Bethany Orr's real life struggle in 2006-2007 with the anxiety disorder known as agoraphobia. Originally from Colorado, Orr established SyQi Entertainment in Los Angeles in 2009 for the purpose of producing original content. Her talent has recently been recognized by The Actors Studio and Werner Herzog. Joining the ranks of visionaries like Brit Marling (“Another Earth”) and Lena Dunham (“Tiny Furniture”), Orr wrote, produced, directed, and starred in her debut film, and the new projects are already lining up. After her appearance in Newport Beach, Orr is headed out to Louisiana for research on a feature film set in post-Katrina New Orleans, and she's in development for another that shoots in Iceland next year.
