The month of April marks Financial Literacy Month, a period where Americans are encouraged to establish and maintain healthy financial habits.  For most, one of the most daunting financial responsibilities is trying to successfully plan for retirement.  While many spend decades trying to build a comfortable nest-egg, today's economy is proving to be difficult for new retirees, with pension programs and Social Security increasingly less stable.  Personal savings has become a much larger part of the retirement equation, a depressing fact for those with inadequate savings.

Certified Financial Planner®  Mark Singer understands this new reality.  In his new book, "THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF RETIREMENT" (yourretirementjourney.com), he discusses the many items to be considered -- and the major pitfalls to be avoided -- in preparing for retirement.  His ‘Retirement Roadmap’ provides a planning tool that can be used in addressing the challenges of this next stage of life.

His advice is relevant for people of all ages, so they can actively plan for a comfortable and stable retirement.  There’s an old saying that goes, "If you don’t know where you are going, then how are you going to know when you get there?"  By heeding Mark Singer’s "The Changing Landscape of Retirement", today’s Baby Boomers, and others, will be well-positioned to enjoy their retirement destination once they get there.

Ask Mark:

-- Why Financial Literacy Month is the perfect time to assess one's retirement planning
-- What Baby Boomers should know as they enter retirement
-- How younger generations can begin to effectively plan for their retirement today
-- What additional planning soon-to-be retirees can make
-- How to maximize personal savings to supplement social security and pension income

Mark Singer is a Certified Financial Planner® whose career spans 25 years and all kinds of markets.  He has most recently appeared on ABCNEWS.com, The Associated Press, "A Touch of Grey" with Steve Weisman, MainStreet.com, TheStreet.com, "American Scene" with Steve Crowley, "Senior Highlights" on WBMT, "Ipswich Council On Aging Today" on ICAM,and WSYM-TV FOX 47 Lansing.  Mark founded the Greater Boston Corporate Wellness Forum, teaches for the non-profit Heartland Institute as a Certified Financial Educator, and has hosted several radio and television shows over the past 20 years, including “Your Money Matters”, the “Retirement Corner”, and “Retirement Strategies”.
