All this said, don’t forget that the Kindle Fire is a device to open up the world of digital goodies that Amazon lays at our feet. My month of free Amazon Prime has expired, but I saw enough of it to know I want to sign up ASAP. I watched a few movies on my Fire, curled up in bed with headphones, and I found the experience to be cozy and pleasurable. Of course, everything can be synced with your HDTV as well, and there are apps for Netflix, HuluPlus, and Roku so you can control your media experience from your Fire.

There is no webcam, so if you’re big into Google+ hangouts you’ll need to use a different device. Also, there is no camera. I don’t care to have either of these on a tablet, and I wouldn’t want to have to pay a lot extra for them either. The only thing missing from my Fire that I’d like to have is 4G wireless. If Amazon comes out with a Kindle Fire with this capability and marries up with Google for a smoother G+ experience (including phoning), I think they will leave the competition in the dust.

The tech from customer service was wonderful and made the disappointing start with my first kindle vanish turning it into a learning experience…I learned that Amazon backs up their product and works quickly to make it right.
