April 17, 2012, Austin, TX – The Money Academy was recently selected as a Top 13 Finalist for the “Social Innovation Fast Pitch” Competition and was also a finalist for the Royito’s “Don’t Do Mild” Award at the RISE conference held in Austin recently.

RISE Global is an Austin based conference series created to unite, inspire and empower entrepreneurs. The sixth annual Austin event was held March 26 - 30th. With intense competition, gaining finalist status in two events demonstrates an interest in financial education for youth as well as the leadership skills of The Money Academy’s founder and CEO, Gayle Reaume.

The Money Academy, founded in 2005 is an afterschool and summer program in which children from second to eighth grades can attend camp sessions and learn the importance of financial responsibility and money management. Reaume stresses the importance of financial education for today’s youth during uncertain economic times.

In her RISE Fast Pitch speech, Reaume stated, “Personal financial education is not even introduced until high school when kids have already shaped their beliefs and habits with money.” Reaume believes that by giving kids “real life, real money” learning, the kids are being set up for more financial success as they mature.

The RISE competition offers entrepreneurs an opportunity to promote their organization in front of a diverse audience and a panel of judges who provide valuable insights and feedback on the business model along with financial awards of $1,000 – $5,000 in prizes for competition winners

Reaume says, “Over 3,000 kids have explored money through our after school clubs, camps, school curriculum and board game.” It is the goal of The Money Academy to franchise and expand to more than 130 active franchises come the end of 2016. Reaume seeks franchise funding in order to be able to successfully spread The Money Academy and the financial education that the program offers to kids across the United States.

With a solid business model in place, Reaume has prepared the organization for franchising since it offers the best opportunity to spread The Money Academy’s financial education to the largest number of kids across the country. By providing entrepreneurial opportunities for new franchise owners to grow and spread The Money Academy locally, the educational company will be able to grow exponentially.

With 7 Austin locations, The Money Academy has achieved fast growth since the inception of the organization in 2005. The Money Academy received early recognition by winning the BiG Austin 2008 Business Plan Competition along with the Citibank’s “The Woman and the Company Microenterprise Boost Program Award. In addition, the innovative business model has gained early media attention from  The Wall Street Journal, various financial publications and local broadcast news.
