Taxes and Good Customer Service
People say there are certain things in life that are guaranteed… Death and Taxes. After this weekend I wanted to share a good experience I had with the subject of taxes.
Most of the time humans will stay in their comfort zone with just about anything in life, failing to try a new way or approach. Many times this is because they don’t want people to think differently or badly of them. This has been my thought with Taxes in the past as well. After all, it isn’t that hard to plug in a few numbers into the software needed. This year after hitting a snag on one of my forms, I scheduled an appointment with the local H&R Block store. Not knowing what to expect I met with a very smart, and extremely nice lady who happened to be a neighbor of mine.
Sitting down and going over the information with her was not only a pleasant experience. It was a chance to ask a professional all the things I was unsure about. She spends a lot more time studying the Tax information than the majority of people, why not pick her brain. After it was all said and done, it may have cost me an extra $50 – $100 to have her do the returns, but the knowledge that she possessed, and the information I learned in a couple hours, was worth 100 times the amount paid. It was like I had a class on taxes with my own one on one teacher.
The short lesson that was picked up from this whole experience is as follows. When dealing complicated matters (Homeowners Associations, Self Storage Units, Rentals) Why wouldn’t you go to a professional. Sure you may see a little more expense on paper, but what about all the savings that are seen by choosing that person. What is it worth to have a designated contact willing to provide great customer service at the moment you need them. How about someone who spends the majority of their time training and learning about the asset or property that you spend a fragment of your time. It is a No-Brainer for me.
