Subaru BRZ Production Delayed in Japan

Subaru is reportedly unable to meet the high demands of the BRZ, thus initial shipments have been delayed to January 2013 for the Japanese markets. We can only hope that North American deliveries remain on schedule.

April 15, 2012 - PRLog -- The Subaru BRZ is Subaru’s iteration of the highly anticipated FT 86 concept, a joint venture in which Toyota’s version will be released as the Scion FR-S. Without a doubt, ever since the initial concept was revealed the internet has been absolutely abuzz in excitement, feverishly waiting for the opportunity to scoop one of these gems from their local Subaru or Scion dealership. Initial press reviews have been nothing but positive as well, further enhancing the appeal of both vehicles.

What’s not to love? The BRZ and FR-S are built for drivers and enthusiasts, plain and simple. The focal point of both vehicles is to establish that driver to car connection that’s lacking in most new vehicles of today. Couple that with its affordability, the Subaru BRZ starts at just $25,495, and you can begin to see what all the fuss is about.

For car enthusiasts around the globe, the BRZ and FR-S are the hot ticket items. How hot? According to a Japanese news outlet, Nikkei, deliveries for the Subaru BRZ are being pushed back to January 2013 due to overwhelming demand. Production began in March and the Gunma factory has not been able to fulfill the production necessary to meet the high demand. Before American consumers panic, this is strictly in regard to the Japanese market, though if trouble is brewing there, it could spell delivery issues for North American markets as well. Though, it should be noted that such sentiment is purely speculative at this point, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed.

Worldwide production is at the same Gunma factory, but Subaru only plans to ship 6,000 BRZ’s to the American market. That figure likely won’t be impacted; it’s the more popular Scion FR-S which has some fans worrying. Worldwide production for the year was initially pegged at 100,000 units.
