April 14, 2012 - PRLog -- So I'll be running through the Lincoln Tunnel in a few weeks. For a guy who's been driving through that very tunnel for many years (with the windows closed to keep the fumes from getting to me), it still feels a little weird to be saying this.

But I've been reassured that the tube we'll be running through will be completely car-free and aired-out for a reasonable period of time. Furthermore, a lot of people do this crazy Lincoln Tunnel thing every year, including friends of mine, and they mostly rave about the experience! It's all for a good cause too, so what the heck! I'm going to run through the Lincoln Tunnel. (Still sounds weird.)

The 26th Annual Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K (3.1 miles) will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Weehawken, New Jersey entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.
Check-In is from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 28th at the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel in Weehawken or from 6:00 am – 8:30 am on race day.

All proceeds from the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge benefit Special Olympics New Jersey athletes and help foster the Special Olympics mission: To provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Currently, there are more than 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities that train and compete throughout New Jersey in 24 sports, participating in more than 160 competitive events.
