Recycle-IT: Reducing Miami's Carbon Footprint with Every Electronic Drop-Off

April 13, 2012 - PRLog -- MIAMI – April 13, 2012 – The adage that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure stands true as local IT forces, TECKpert and PREEMO join together for the Recycle-IT campaign, providing the community with a simple method to dispose of used electronic goods.  With multiple offices around the Miami-Dade area, TECKpert and PREEMO have made it easy for the local community to make another step in helping the environment.

TECKpert and PREEMO encourage members of the community to responsibly dispose of unwanted electronic items, in turn, helping to keep toxins out of our local Florida landfills. With new convenient drop-off locations, it is now easier than ever to dispose of old electronics properly and safely. For drop box locations, or to schedule a pick-up of your unwanted electronic goods, please visit www.recycleitmiami.com.  Miami- Dade will have an additional drop-off location on April 13, 2012 from 6:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m., when the Miami Heat will partner with Waste Management at the American Airlines Arena.  Patrons will receive Miami Heat flags while supplies last in exchange for their small used electronic goods. HEAT fans are also welcome to bring small, used electronics to the Arena during the Charlotte Bobcats vs. HEAT game, which begins at 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Today, electronic waste, or e-waste, has been an ongoing concern for environmentalists and activists alike.  The Recycle-IT campaign provides further benefits to the Miami community, by recycling electronic goods and donating the funds to Miami- Dade public schools. The campaign benefits The Foundation for New Education Initiatives, a non-profit entity created by the Miami-Dade County School Board to enhance student achievement and community engagement in support of The Parent Academy and other educational initiatives of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Supporting the Foundation’s recently launched campaign “Bringing Wireless to the Classroom”, Recycle-IT acts as a clearinghouse for implementing technology in our public schools’ classrooms.

"In just a few short weeks, we've made some serious headway. A number of large organizations have come on board, helping us promote the importance of safely recycling used computers and electronics. But there's more work to be done.
