April 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Leading recruitment agency Core Talent Recruitment are hoping to benefit from the continual expansion of the manufacturing industry with March making it the forth month in a row for growth.

The news comes after a recent report from financial services company Markit found the manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) rose from 51.6 in February to 52.1 to 52.1 in March making the latest activity the fastest increase in ten months, indicating strong prospects for healthy growth despite fears of another recession.

The PMI has been above 50, the level separating expansion from contraction, since December of last year and the figures for last month indicated a 0.3% growth in manufacturing output in the first quarter of the year. Even though the manufacturing sector accounts for only 10% of gross domestic product, the latest results are far better than economists could have predicted and bolstered expectations that the economy as a whole grew in the first quarter of the year.

Director of Core Talent recruitment agency, David Nesbitt, commented on the latest figures stating, “We have received positive news for the manufacturing sector every month throughout 2012 and can only hope the current expansion continues, leading to a creation of new opportunities and jobs throughout the sector.”

The sectors growth is believed to be driven by manufacturers burning through backlogs of orders as well as building up stockpiles of finished products at record levels. However despite the growth in new orders, the latest report stated conditions in the sector remained “tough”.

A recent surge in cost pressures this year may over shadow the good news as the rise in input prices is among the steepest in the 20 year history of the PMI survey. The extent of the pick-up in costs since the start of 2012 which the manufacturing industry has to contend with is a contribution of rising oil prices, metals, plastics and components.

Nesbitt commented on the current competition suggesting, “While the rise in oil and metal as well as an increase in competition overseas, the British manufacturing industry is showing strong signs of stability and this latest news will only create more competition within the UK as the sector looks for the most skilful workers”.
