Soccer Volunteers Encouraged to Celebrate Power of Volunteerism During National Volunteer Week
Grassroots soccer depends on its volunteers to survive. Soccer Support is encouraging clubs across the country to celebrate its volunteers and all they do for the sport off the field to help create the successes on it.
Soccer Support is encouraging clubs throughout the U.S. to take the time to formally acknowledge its volunteers and the tireless work they do day-to-day to make sure the engine room of grassroots soccer continues to power ahead.
CEO Ryan Ginard stated that there were numerous ways clubs could show their appreciation to volunteers including formal recognition ceremonies to a just as important but much more simple thank you.
“We know the majority of club administrators put in countless hours in a volunteer capacity and that often it’s a thankless task. It’s important that clubs celebrate all they have achieved and those that helped achieve it” Ginard said.
National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change – discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to foster positive transformation.
Mr Ginard also maintained that grassroots clubs across the country are always looking for volunteers to help them with countless administrative tasks and game day operations.
“Getting involved with your local club is easy but ultimately up to the individual to take that first step. Pick up the phone or send a simple email. Let these clubs know you are here and happy to help.
“Volunteers are priceless to clubs and without them the sport would struggle to develop the international talent we spend hours passionately following and cheering for.
“Volunteering provides people the opportunity to give back to the sport that no doubt has given so much to them. We hope that volunteer week can provide the catalyst for a new wave of enthusiasm in our grassroots clubs” Ginard said.
Sponsored by Points of Light Institute—National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each subsequent year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. With the third year anniversary of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the creation of the Volunteer Generation Fund and the resonant call to serve from the President, this year will be even more energizing and inspiring.
