Rob Van Petten Joins OnTheLine: Extreme Sailing as Director of Photography for the Series

April 5, 2012 - PRLog -- NEWPORT, RI, April 5, 2012 — OTL Productions, a Newport based TV and film production company announced today that renown photographer, Rob Van Petten will join their production team as Director of Photography for its OnTheLine: Extreme Sailing series which is scheduled to begin production this Spring.

OnTheLine: Extreme Sailing is a mocumentary style program about a production crew filming extreme sailing documentaries with an inside look at the world of competitive sailing; capturing what many consider to be the most grueling test of human ability.
Rob Van Petten grew up in a Navy family and sailed at Tabor Academy.  At the early age of 12, he borrowed his father’s Nikon and never gave it back beginning a long-standing relationship with Nikon cameras.  Rob had has done some personal extreme sailing photography of his own following Jean-Pierre (JP) Mouligne in his victorious 1998-99 single-handed sail in the Class II Around Alone aboard Cray Valley.

Rob recently helped launch the new Nikon D800 with Nikon’s Tokyo Ad agency and Nikon USA. OTL Productions will be filming exclusively with these new cameras including the rugged high ISO Nikon D4, and the extreme sport Cool Pix AW100. “D-SLR video cameras allow you to shoot in close, faster, and with less light. Higher ISO and tighter sealed camera bodies allow for capturing shots that have never been possible before. The addition of WiFi transmission technology allows getting cameras in position without running wires, which has always been an obstacle on the water, and allows shooting from remote locations.  I am excited to utilize this new technology with the OTL team”, say Van Petten.

Freelancing for over 30 years, Rob has won numerous Communications Arts, Art Directors Club and Andy Awards. He has been featured in Digital Photo Pro, American Photo, Range Finder, has a regular column in Nikon World Magazine, and is a regular contributor to Newport Life Magazine.  He is the Consulting Photography Program Director at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University, teaching digital fashion shooting and portfolio development.
