Gannett Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to Blythedale Children’s Hospital

Grant awarded for Child Life Program, children facing medical challenges
April 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Blythedale Children’s Hospital recently received a $5,000 grant from Gannett, Inc., through the Gannett Foundation. The grant was awarded in support of the Hospital’s Child Life Program.

“The Child Life Program helps children cope with hospitalization and become active participants in their rehabilitation and recovery,” said Lisa Levinson, Child Life Coordinator at Blythedale Children’s Hospital. “We are so grateful to the Gannett Foundation for its recognition of the work we do to improve the lives of children. This grant allows for increased outreach capabilities, reaching and supporting even more of our patients and families.”

The Child Life Program plays an important role in Blythedale’s multidisciplinary medical and therapeutic approach to rehabilitation and recovery. Child Life promotes patients’ optimal development and minimizes stress by fostering a supportive environment in which children can participate in creative outlets, play, learn coping strategies and express themselves through verbal and non-verbal activities. These interventions help children master their medical experiences. For many children, their healthcare encounter becomes a positive growth experience as a result.

“Gannett is a corporation that is deeply entrenched in our greater community and we are honored to receive this grant for such a special program at Blythedale,” said Jane MacDonald, Blythedale’s Chief Development Officer.

The Child Life Program is vital to Blythedale’s outstanding continuum of care and multidisciplinary medical and therapeutic approach.  For more information about Child Life, please visit or contact Blythedale’s Child Life Coordinator Lisa Levinson, BA, CCLS, at or 914-831-2476.
