Memorial Hospital & Health System, as in previous years, continues to be the third largest source of donations for United Way’s annual campaign. Fellow employees Jaci Kerwin, Sandy Smigielski and Patty Tomaszewski have led the way by serving as Employee Campaign Managers (ECM) for the past several years. To help encourage donations, the ECMs developed what has become their most popular and highly successful campaign activity—a Basket Silent Auction. Each department develops a unique themed basket that is then auctioned off via the company’s intranet. A company-wide chili cook-off also helps bring in donations.
Memorial Hospital & Health System continues to be a great community partner through United Way. They are dedicated to United Way’s annual campaign, volunteerism and sponsorship support. Phil Newbold, CEO of Memorial Health System & Elkhart General Healthcare System, is a past Campaign Chair and Allocations Chair. In addition to a high percentage of Leadership donors, those contributing in excess of $1,000, Memorial Hospital & Health System made a significantly large corporate contribution.
1st Source Bank
1st Source Bank is the 4th largest contributing company to United Way’s annual campaign. Regionally, 1st Source Bank achieved a remarkable 9% increase over their campaign goal. Their campaign committee worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the campaign, giving presentations to each department explaining how United Way works and the huge impact it makes in our community. Their efforts were rewarded by securing a large number of donations, including a high percentage of leadership givers, or those giving in excess of $1,000. 1st Source Bank also has leadership that is very active in United Way. CEO, Christopher Murphy and his wife, Carmi, have both led past United Way Campaigns. Additionally, its Chairman Emeritus, Ernestine Raclin, was the first woman to serve on United Way’s National Board. She also assisted in creating the concept of payroll deduction and was the first female Chair to lead a United Way Campaign.
