April 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Sanibel-Captiva Art League 36th Annual Juried Art Exhibit at BIG ARTS, “A Touch of Red” opens Thursday, April 5, in Phillips Gallery, 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. A reception and awards ceremony will take place Friday, April 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Charles Miano, artist and educator, and President of the Southern Atelier Fine Arts Center in Sarasota, will judge the artwork in the exhibit. Awards will also be presented by Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane, who will be giving a “Mayor’s Choice” award, and by Erick Lindblad, Executive Director of The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. Members of the Shell Islands Garden Club will display floral arrangements in keeping with the show’s theme, “Touch of Red.” The public is invited to vote in a “People’s Choice” award.

The competition draws from members of the Art Council of Southwest Florida, which includes more than 4,000 artists from 16 area art organizations. This year’s exhibit highlights the use of the color red, and will feature original works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, collage, sculpture and original prints. All work is for sale.

For more than 15 years, members from the Art Councils of Southwest Florida http://www.artcouncilofsouthwestflorida.org/ have been invited by the Sanibel-Captiva Art League http://www.sancapart.com/ to exhibit at BIG ARTS. The mission of the Sanibel-Captiva Art League is to create opportunities to create art, share art, support art education, and to enhance the community artistically.
Art by Sanibel School students will be displayed in this exhibit.

BIG ARTS Phillips Gallery, located at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel, is open Monday through Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. “A Touch of Red” exhibit will be open Thursday, April 5 through Monday, April 30.
