April 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Troy, MI - April 2, 2012. Project Runway Season Five contestant Joe Faris worked in partnership with the International Academy of Design &Technology (IADT-Detroit) in a groundbreaking fashion project that was titled "Real Fashion Workshop".  The project featured six fashion design students from IADT-Detroit who worked with Mr. Faris for the unique fashion design challenge. Their original creations simultaneously highlighted their diverse design skills as well as showcased Michigan's dynamic automotive industry.

The students used repurposed automotive materials throughout their design concepts, including auto show banners and plastic piecing to construct one-of-a-kind garments that graced the runway of the 3rd annual Fashion In Detroit runway showcase that was held on March 10th at the Motor City Casino Sound Board in Downtown Detroit.  The exclusive IADT student showcase set the creative tone for the all day fashion runway show as their designs were selected to open the sold out  fashion runway show.  The IADT-Detroit showcase featured the work of Mariella Amador (IADT Graduate) and current IADT Students: Shatese Falconer, Arin Tilley, Rosalyn Fernandis, Nina Jefferson, and Cari Lynn Battle.

Now in its 3rd year, Fashion In Detroit saluted the strong and vibrant Detroit fashion scene during its one-day event that was co-hosted by Joe Faris, along with Ambassador Magazine Publisher and Jewelry Designer, Denise Ilitch.  "It's so exciting to be a part of promoting Detroit fashion," said Ilitch.  Fashion In Detroit, co-created in 2009 by Joe Faris, was launched to put a fashion spotlight on Michigan, while creating a destination that showcases the talent of some of Detroit's best designers.

This year's event drew national attention and over 2,000 attendees, including members of the press and fashion industry from around the world. "We, have once again, transformed the Motor City into Fashion City," said Faris. A portion of the FID proceeds benefited the Ronald McDonald Houses of Ann Arbor and Detroit – The mission of the Ronald McDonald House is to provide families of children experiencing a serious illness or injury a "home away from home" that assists in alleviating the families' emotional and financial stress.
