March 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Established in the year, 2004 Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy – JMA which has been making rapid strides in early childhood education is presently one among the most sought after schools at Pilani. JMA which started with an enrollment of 60 students for the Nursery, LKG, First Junior and Class1 has grown today till Class 9 with well over 500 students presently.

Over the years, the founding Principal of JMA, Mrs Booma Natarajan has ensured that the school follows the rich tradition of observing various days of national and international importance on a regular basis to increase the current awareness among the enrolled as well as aspiring students seeking admission to the school.

Earth Hour organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is a global action call to every individual, business, school and community to take a stand against climate change and express solidarity by switching off lights for 1 hour from 8.30 Pm to 9.30 PM.  It’s scheduled on the last Saturday of every March – closely coinciding with the equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolled out around the Earth.  For the year 2012 it is on Saturday 31 March. In 2007 it started at Sydney Australia with about 2 million people joining hands and by 2011 has spread across 135 countries with hundreds of millions of people participating. The participating countries include the G7 nations France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States of America and Canada as well as the BRICS nations Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. India which joined the Earth Hour movement in 2009 with 56 cities participating added momentum to the campaign with 130 cities joining in 2011.

On 31 March 2012, JMA addressing the students at JMA Pilani, Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan gave an overview of the importance of the day and to make it successful urged the children to take part in the Earth Hour by insisting on switching off the lights in their homes and also request their friends and neighbors to do so.
