Pendred Noyce Among Top Authors to be Spotlighted at USA Science & Engineering Festival Book Fair
To excite and engage more young readers in the wonders of science & technology through the power of books, Noyce will join over 36 other esteemed writers at the USA Science & Engineering Festival and Book Fair, April 28-29, 2012 in Washington, DC.
Moreover, the Book Fair gives students the chance to meet and hear some of the best-selling science writers in the country who get this message across in unforgettable ways, Angle continues, “which not only inspires kids to connect with science through reading, but helps build a strong foundation for science motivation in the classroom and for science literacy into adulthood."
At the Book Fair, Pendred Noyce, author of the Lexicon Adventure Series (Lost in Lexicon, The Ice Castle), will join other authors in each giving a 45-minute presentation on his or her work, followed by a book signing.
No ordinary gathering, the Book Fair is part of the Festival's finale Expo weekend celebration – a free event set for the Walter E. Washington Convention Center that will feature a bevy of hands-on excitement in science, including 2,000 exhibits and stage demonstrations to inspire the next generation of innovators.
"I am honored and excited to join other noted science writers in speaking to young readers at the Book Fair. Books can allow children to experience the full wonder of science by sharing a spirit of playful thinking and daring exploration that lasts a lifetime," said Noyce, whose book presentation titled "Mathemysticals and Musical Leaves: Spinning Tales at the Edge of Science" is scheduled for Sunday, April 29 at 10 am at the Washington Convention Center.
Pendred (Penny) Noyce is a doctor, education reformer, and writer. She grew up in Silicon Valley, California, and is now married with five children and living in the western suburbs of Boston. Penny is the author of the Lexicon Adventure Series published by Scarletta Press. Penny has practiced internal medicine, supervised medical residents, and become a leader in Massachusetts mathematics and science education reform. She serves on a number of nonprofit boards, including that of the Noyce Foundation, and she chairs the boards of Maine’s Libra Foundation and the Rennie Center for Education Research and Policy.

About the USA Science & Engineering Festival:
The USA Science & Engineering Festival and Book Fair hosted by Lockheed Martin, the nation's largest celebration of science and engineering, will be held April 28-29, 2012 in Washington, DC. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is the country’s only national science festival, and was developed to increase public awareness of the importance of science and to encourage youth to pursue careers in science and engineering by celebrating science in much the same way as we celebrate Hollywood celebrities, professional athletes and pop stars. Lockheed Martin is again the presenting host of the USA Science & Engineering Festival and is joined by many other Festival sponsors and partners. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is a grassroots collaboration of over 500 of the United States leading science and engineering organizations.
