Dame Kelly Holmes Throws Down Gauntlet to British Business
Dame Kelly Holmes today issued a direct challenge to British Business to get into the spirit of the Olympics and bag themselves a place on the podium at the 2012 Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge, Britain’s leading corporate challenge event.
Set to return to Stirling, Scotland from 13-17 June 2012, the event brings with it teams from some of our foremost organisations, and the double Olympic gold medalist thinks more businesses should get involved and help create a lasting legacy in this most historic of years.
Dame Kelly, founder of the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, said “The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge is an amazing event and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust is delighted to have been chosen as the benefitting charity for the next 3 years. The Challenge provides businesses with the opportunity to develop their most important asset, their staff, improve leadership, develop inter-company relationships and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity, in a fun, challenging and inspiring way”.
“Today, I am laying down the gauntlet to every company out there to rise to the challenge and join me and many other major blue chip organisations by participating in this amazing event, which takes place in Stirling, Scotland between 13-17 June... and for the companies that get on the podium, I will be there to present them with their medals.”
Winner of the Scottish Event Award for Best Corporate Event, this unique team development event for businesses combines strategy and team work with multi-sport adventure to deliver challenges designed to thrill, inspire and push team members to their very limits over 3 nights and 4 days.
Testing intellectual, physical and strategic skills, participants find themselves doing anything from navigating around ancient forests during nightfall saving ‘government agents’ to taking to the water by canoe as a ‘market trader’ trying to make profit in fluctuating markets. And, despite tough trading times, 97% of last year’s participants boasted a positive increase in performance back in the workplace as a result of participation.
Participating teams also fundraise for charity during the event and have risen over £4 million for charity over the history of the event.
Steve Gill, CEO at HP commented “I really believe in this event, it’s a fantastic motivator for all the people in our company – it makes them much better people, they contribute better back at work and motivate all the people around them by what they’ve done.”
Sam Tierney, National Account Manager at Heineken went on to say “as well as presenting a formidable networking opportunity with some of the UK’s biggest businesses, this event offers an unrivalled opportunity to develop your leadership skills and provides a truly unique situation to grow as a team, all of which are vital in these testing times.”
Event organisers are also very excited about the 2012 event and its return to the Scotland, James Robinson, Managing Director of Intelligent Sport® and IMG Challenger World said: The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge returns to the Scottish city of Stirling after 4 four years and with its rugged beauty, undulating terrains and historical setting we are so enthusiastic about returning. Uniquely for such a spectacular location is that it also presents easy access from Edinburgh and by rail from London which is great for helping companies from all across the country join us at the 2012 event.”
The event will be televised for Channel 4. For further information and to sign up to The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge visit www.ukchallenge.co.uk
