What legal principles are most likely to influence the nine justices who sit on the nation’s high court? On Thursday, April 19, starting at 6 p.m., the Denver Press Club will host an expert panel that will examine the issues and explain the legal principles that are likely to be cited in the ruling. Harlan Abrahams, a lawyer, writer, and former professor of Constitutional Law, will lead this compelling program. Joining him on the all-star panel will be Edward A. Dauer, dean emeritus of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and Gerald A. Niederman, a shareholder in the Health Care Practice Group of Polsinelli Shughart PC, a national law firm with an office in Denver. Abrahams, formerly a member of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP in Denver, is the author, with Steve Farber, of On the List, which examines the health care debate in the context of organ transplant policy. His recent classes focus on significant Supreme Court decisions of the past century and are distinctive for their emphasis on the law-based reasons behind those decisions, rather than emotional, political or social considerations. Dauer is a veteran law professor who has been a visiting lecturer at the Harvard School of Public Health and a visiting professor in the areas of health law and policy, health care conflict management, and health care dispute resolution at various universities. Niederman’s practice emphasizes business and regulatory matters affecting hospitals, physician groups, ambulatory care facilities, trade associations and related enterprises, including non-profit organizations. Insurance, managed care contracting and the delivery and reimbursement of health care are among the matters he regularly addresses. With the Supreme Court scheduled to hear six hours of oral arguments from attorneys representing both sides in the challenge in late March, the presentation at the Denver Press Club will be a timely follow-up regarding a decision that will impact virtually all Americans in some way. The event is open to the public. No registration is necessary. Panel members will answer questions from the audience following their discussion. The Denver Press Club is located at 1330 Glenarm Place (www.denverpressclub.org) End
