March 29, 2012 - PRLog -- SPRINGFIELD, MO., - The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Mid America chapter of Southwest Missouri is proud to announce the return of The Man and Woman of the Year campaign to Southwest Missouri. This year we have seven candidates from the Southwest Missouri area. The event kicked off on March 22, 2012 and will run till June 7, 2012.
This year our candidates include: Arana Arth, Mercy Clinic Cancer and Hematology; Dr. Garry Brown, Central Care Cancer Center; Seth Elliott, Parlor 88 Lounge; Dr. Gil Fernandez, CoxHealth Center of Rogersville; Katie Kennington Vance, running in memory of her late father Robert Estes Kennington II; Becky Overend, Nexstar Broadcasting (KOLR/KOZL); and Chad Plein from KY3 Inc.
Man and Woman of the Year is a competition, in communities across the nation, to raise funds for blood cancer research, patient aid, and education. The candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy and Girl of the Year, who are Emma Grace Hepner and Ethan Hite. Every dollar counts as one vote and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of the ten weeks; the top local fundraisers compete for the national titles.
Candidates who run for the title of Man and Woman of the Year are dynamic, passionate candidates who are a select group of community and business leaders who use their networking and leadership skills in a ten-week competition to raise the most funds. Many candidates run in honor of a loved one who passed from or is a survivor blood cancer; some candidates are survivors themselves.
