Don't loose your hair running your own business

There are as many challenges as there are rewards in being your own boss.  Almost a year on despite the risks, one Wirral business woman , is making big waves in the skin treatment and laser tattoo removal industry. In her interview on http://nwtv.biz this week, Karen Biddulph, founder of Refine Beauty, told us  about what it takes to balance family life with a busy working day.
Having had a rewarding career for the past two decades as a Midwife, Karen looked for a new challenge, a business she could call her own. It was initially a scary thought to leave the relative security of the NHS and to venture into unknown territory but Karen had a plan. She began a two year course in Business Studies attending Wirral Metropolitan College as well as in her second year enrolling on a short course at Wirralbiz which helped with the finer details of establishing a small business. This also provided a grant following submission of a business plan which was an added bonus.
The idea of ‘Refine Beauty’ came also in the second year of her course. A chance discussion with a friend who had recently had laser treatment set the ball in motion. This was followed by six months researching the industry, re-training and purchasing equipment.
Karen has paid a lot of attention to the quality of her equipment, consistently good customer service as well as carefully choosing the right locations to trade from, these she feels are the tools for success. Customers should leave feeling that they have been looked after well and treatments have been effective.

Karen advises that before agreeing to laser treatments ensure that you go to a reputable establishment and be treated by a suitably qualified and reliable Laser Practitioner. Don’t be afraid to ask questions concerning the practitioner’s training and the equipment being used. Not everyone has a contract with the manufacturers as she does; this involves 6 monthly servicing of equipment and regular clinical updates. There are many systems on the market and all are not the same and will therefore not be as effective as others.
