ScottMadden Conducts Talent Management and Shared Services Trends Survey

Talent Management and Shared Services Trends Survey Reveals Leading Practices for Attracting, Retaining, and Developing Talent
By: ScottMadden, Inc.

March 29, 2012 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., linked forces with The Shared Services and Outsourcing Network (SSON) to engage participants in a survey ScottMadden developed on talent management for shared services organizations and other shared services trends. This survey revealed noteworthy trends and diversity in the use of talent management strategies in shared services and the use of other shared services infrastructure.

This first cycle of a multi-year study of industry-specific trends in talent management and shared services, titled Talent Management and Shared Services Trends, captured the current state of talent management practices in shared services, as well as the degree to which organizations are currently utilizing practices. The study dove deep into examining tactics for attracting talent, engaging and retaining talent, and developing talent. The survey also included questions about global models, governance, and use of other shared services infrastructure.  Survey respondents included more than 70 shared service services professionals who could request an electronic copy of the final survey report.

“While we see strong evidence of the use of effective talent management strategies, there is wide diversity in the extent of use and manner of use of various talent management tactics and programs,” said Karen Hilton, director at ScottMadden.

Other findings of the study included:

•   Regular communication is ranked as the most effective tactic for engaging employees and building culture in SSOs
•   Non-monetary factors rate higher than monetary factors as key drivers for retaining talent
•   SSOs find success with internal candidate sources, such as internal postings and employee referrals, among other external sources of new hires
•   Succession planning is used to a limited degree by most SSOs, but the extent of use varies significantly
