Last Poetic Skirmish Before Semi-Finals
On Friday, April 6th, 2012 at 8:30pm, The largest poetry slam in Philly will land in its new home, the White Space at the Crane Old School, 1417 N. 2nd Street, in Northern Liberties. Louder Arts poet Angel Nafis headlines the last regular season slam
Nafis’ work has been published in Muzzle Magazine and Found Magazine's Requiem for a Paper Bag. For two years Nafis was the poet in residence at the Neutral Zone in Michigan. In 2011 Nafis represented NYC and Louder Arts at the National Poetry Slam and the Women of the World Poetry Slam.
From 7:30 to 8:30pm, Angel facilitates a writing workshop that is free for attendees of The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam. At 9, Nafis performs original work, headlining the monthly poetry slam, a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience.
“The poets will be bringing their best in hopes of securing a spot in our semi finals.” Says co-founder and slam poetry champion Alyesha "Ms." Wise. “Top finishers from semis will compete at the grand slam finals to represent Philly at The Southern Fried Poetry Slam, this June, in Tampa, FL.”
“These tremendous poets are drawing crowds we didn’t anticipate."
The 5th episode of The Pigeon's popular web series of 1 on 1 Street Slams features co-hosts Jacob Winterstein and Ms. Wise Performing in three pedestrians turned judges. It is available on YouTube. Watch the 5th 1 on 1 slam.
