Rising Petrol Prices Leave Japanese Cars Motorists Stranded

Prices are set to rise again in August - around 3 pence per litre - as a result of the Government's planned inflationary rise. The price hike will add an additional £1.65 to a driver's tab each time they fill up.

March 27, 2012 - PRLog -- High petrol prices are causing many motorists and car insurance policy holders to be stranded mid-journey after running out of fuel, says a new RAC study.

Last month alone saw a 20 per cent rise in call-outs to motorists who were stranded in their cars after running out of fuel. In February, the RAC received 4,780 calls from drivers with empty fuel tanks, compared with 3,900 from the same time last year.

"These figures certainly suggest that the spiralling cost of fuel is causing many motorists to drive on empty," RAC Technical Director David Bizley said in in a press release.

According to the Telegraph, motorists are now forking over £76 to fill a 55-litre tank, a £14 increase from two years ago. Diesel cars also saw similar price hikes, with the average driver paying £80 to fill their tanks - a £17 increase.

"Although this is understandable given the current prices, it is clearly leaving many drivers unnecessarily stranded," Bizley said.

"Drivers need to make sure they have enough fuel for their journey - but the Government need to do more to help the hard-pressed motorist."

Prices are set to rise again in August - around 3 pence per litre - as a result of the Government's planned inflationary rise. The price hike will add an additional £1.65 to a driver's tab each time they fill up.

"Since December 2008, we've seen six increases in fuel duty and two hikes in VAT. Another rise is the last thing that motorists need - with oil prices on the rise yet again petrol now costs 24 per cent and diesel 28 per cent more than it did in 2010. For drivers struggling with high inflation and pay freezes, that's an unacceptable burden," Bizley said.
